Chiropractic And Pregnancy

Chiropractic is a safe, natural, and drug free way to keep your body healthy and functioning properly. Pregnancy can be pretty tough on your body’s skeletal structure and musculature as the baby grows! By keeping your spine in alignment (especially the pelvic structures) much of that physical stress can be relieved.

Chiropractic adjustments during this time are so important that an entire technique has been dedicated to it! The Webster technique takes “normal” chiropractic a few steps further by gently focusing on the sacrum and associated structures. This specific type of sacral adjustment facilitates pelvic alignment, balances pelvic muscles and ligaments, and reduces torsion (twisting forces) to the uterus. Current research is revealing that one of the benefits of receiving the Webster technique throughout pregnancy is prevention of dystocia.

Some other benefits commonly experienced during pregnancy include:

·Back pain relief

·Easing pregnancy symptoms such as sciatica, hip pain, heartburn

·Improved neurological function and immune function

·Proper pelvic alignment, which allows for better positioning of baby

Some mothers may choose to be adjusted during labor, at the discretion of the chiropractor, medical doctor and/or midwife. Chiropractic adjustments can help shorten labor and make the birthing process easier!

Chiropractic care can be so gentle and safe for proper health and function, it can even be used on newborns. Often when newborns either have trouble latching, only nurse on one side, or are extremely colicky/constipated a simple chiropractic adjustment can improve the issue.

As important as it is to stay adjusted during pregnancy, post-partum care is also vital. Post-partum care can correct any subluxations/misalignments that may have occurred during birth, as well as correcting any spinal problems that result from breastfeeding, bottle feeding, and carrying baby around.

Chiropractic care is important throughout all stages of life, especially during pregnancy. Dr. Bethany Powell chose to advance her training and understanding by earning certification in the Webster technique by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association in order to provide the very best care possible for her patients.
